The massage therapy involves a lot of working and acting on the surface of the body with pressure – structured, stationary, or moving – tension, or vibration - all of this done manually or with some sort of mechanical aids.
Usually the massage will be made with the hands, fingers, forearm, feet, or some sort of a massage device - but there is also the erotic massage, where the rules are changing a little bit depending on the type as well. Depending on the application and technique used, massage is used to promote relaxation and well-being - and is beneficial in treating sports injuries and other problems affecting the musculature of the body such as postural misalignment and many painful conditions. In all the dedicated settings, all of the massage clients are treated while lying on a massage table, sitting in a massage chair, or lying on a mat on the floor, while in amateur settings a general purpose surface like a bed or floor is more common. There is also a kind of aquatic massage and bodywork is performed with some soft of recipients submersed tthat are floating in a warm-water therapy pool. The massaged people cam be fully or partially clothed or unclothed as well
THis word comes from the French word massage "friction of kneading", or also from Arabic massa meaning "to touch, feel" or from Latin massa meaning "mass, dough",. There is also Greek verb (massō) "to handle, touch, to work with the hands, to knead dough". In distinction the ancient Greek word for massage was anatripsis,and the Latin was frictio.
A couple of archaeological evidences related to the existance of the massage has been found in a lot of ancient civilizations including China, India, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and Mesopotamia.
